Five injured in fire that burns down eight houses

A fire swept through eight rented houses in a community in Bangkok’s Yannawa district late Wednesday night, injuring five people, police said.

Pol Captain Atthapol Khunnuj, the deputy inspector of Yannawa Police Station, said the fire started at the community on Narathiwat Soi 6 at 12.50am on Thursday.
Firefighters took about half an hour to control the blaze after it had burned down eight houses.
Two of the injured, Prayad Udongmeechai, 62, and Thanalak Udommanee, 47, were rushed to the Saint Louis Hospital.
Thanawat Udommeechai, 18, Muinan, 31, a Myanmar national, and Chawalit Suwanwasit, 32, were rushed to the Lerdsin Hospital.
Witnesses told police that the fire started from a house rented by a Cambodian who had lit joss sticks in the house.
Most houses in the community are made of wood.
