St Gabriel’s College suspends director at his request

The St Gabriel’s Foundation has officially suspended the scandal-tainted Asst Professor Vinai Viriyavidhayavongs, from duty as the director of St Gabriel’s College.

Payom Chinnaong, secretary-general of the Office of the Private Education Commission on Friday said that the foundation had issued the suspension on Thursday.
The Foundation chairman, Brother Surasit Sukchai, is now doubling as the acting director of St Gabriel’s College.
The suspension was in response to Vinai’s request, which came under immense pressure from parents, students and alumni.
They accused Vinai of several wrongdoings, including his relationship with his consultant and mismanaging the school’s fund.
Established in 1920, St Gabriel’s is one of the country’s most prestigious boys-only schools. Its alumni include high-profile figures including Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister General Prawit Wongsuwon, Privy Councillor and former prime minister General Surayud Chulalont, and former deputy prime minister MR Pridiyathorn Devakula.
