Bribery fails for drug mule busted with 500kg of marijuana

Police on Friday announced the arrest of a 39-year-old man allegedly carrying 500 kilograms of marijuana at a drug checkpoint in Nakhon Ratchasima the day before.

Deputy national police chief Pol General Weerachai Songmetta said Chiang Rai native Supacheep Meeboon confessed he was hired by an “investor” to deliver the marijuana to an accomplice waiting at Pathum Thani’s Seer Rangsit Mall.
Weerachai said further distribution would be conducted in the South, where the marijuana could have been sold for Bt25 million – five times its value at source.
Supacheep, who is otherwise unemployed, claimed he had transported marijuana four times before, each time being paid Bt100,000-Bt200,000.
Praising the arresting officers at Pak Chong district’s Klang Dong precinct – Pol Lieutenant Krissana Chat-art-anong and Pol Lance Corporals Patchara Sriwachira and Ritthikrai Chaida – for intercepting smugglers on Mitraparp Highway, Weerachai alleged that Supacheep had offered them a Bt15,000 cash bribe.
Supacheep was initially charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell.
