Announcing the best young writers in English
Winners of the 13th Junior Dublin Literary Awards for Thailand, a national English writing competition among high school students, will be announced this Friday.
Almost 1,000 entries from 500 schools nationwide were received under the theme of “Moving Forward”. The overall national winner will win a trip to Dublin, Ireland.
The event is co-organised by NJ Digital, The Nation and Chiang Mai Citylife magazine.
Thailand’s largest and longest-running national English essay contest has been supported for the past 13 years by the Embassy of Ireland, PCS/OCS Co Ltd, and the Irish-Thai Chamber of Commerce. This year, they were joined by the Emerald Cultural Institute, LawtonAsia Insurance Brokers, and St. Patrick’s Society.
The aims of the competition are to encourage English writing and creativity among Thai youth. This year, each contestant was also asked to produce a one-minute video on his/her essay.
In Dublin, the national winner will have an opportunity to join the international senior Dublin Literary Awards, an international literary contest for a novel written in English or translated into English; take part in English learning workshops and visit many famous sites in the historical city of Dublin.
The regional winners will each receive a Bt10,000 cash prize while the regional first and second runners-up each get a Bt5,000 cash prize.
The judges are H.E. Brendan Rogers, Irish Ambassador to Thailand, Philomena Murnaghan, a former Irish Ambassador to Lithuania and Argentina, Dr. Sirikorn Maneerin, former Deputy Minister, the Ministry of Education, Assoc. Prof. Suchada Nimmannit, former President of Thailand TESOL (the Association of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) and Director, Rangsit English Language Institute, Ajarn Atchara Pradit, Chair of the Children's Literature Program, Undergraduate Studies, Faculty of Humanities, Srinakharinwirot University, Pana Janviroj, President, The Nation, and Pimpimol Kongkreingkrai, Editor, NJ Digital.
