Survey of waterway-intruding structures continues
Regional Marine Branch Office in Krabi on Friday continued to survey waterway-intruding structures after 2,811 people applied for permits for such structures as per the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO)'s leniency order.
So far 1,000 applicants have been granted the permits for such facilities as fish-rearing floating baskets and residential homes.
The inspection of remaining structures should be completed by June, said branch office director Lieutenant Commander Chaisiri Khundam.
The NCPO passed the leniency order to allow people to catch up with requirements under an amendment to the Navigation in Thai Waters Act 2017's that came into effect last February. The original amendment required those with waters-intruding structures to notify the respective marine office branches within 120 days after the law was in effect.
The punishment for violation is up to three years in jail and a fine of Bt1,000-per square metre of intruding space up to Bt20,000, or both.
Krabi branch official Surasak Mongkolchaisiri led officials to inspect Ban Bagun bay in Tambon Aoleuk Noi in Ao Leuk district to check on 300 applicants' waters-intruding structures.
