Sa Kaew checkpoint on alert for rabid pets from Cambodia

As a measure to control rabies, the animal quarantine centre in Sa Kaew has been instructed to work with the provincial immigration office to tighten checks on attempts to bring in cats and dogs from Cambodia.

Prawut Purisaphan, chief of the Aranyaprathet district livestock office, said he had been ordered to work with immigration police to warn Cambodian vendors that they cannot bring pets into Thailand.
Prawut said only dogs and cats with rabies vaccination certificates would be allowed to pass through the border checkpoint.
He was speaking to reporters after he and Aranyaprathet district chief Sawanit Suriyakul accompanied a mobile unit of veterinarians giving free rabies shots at Ban Klong Luek village and the Rong Klua Market as part of ongoing efforts to control the outbreak of rabies.
