Race to repair homes after summer storms hit Si Sa Ket

Summer storms hit Si Sa Ket on Wednesday destroying 64 homes belonging to 74 families, as well as damaging eight rice silos and four livestock pens.

The 21 affected villages were in the six districts of Phrai Bung, Khukhan, Non Khun, Muang, Prang Ku and Si Rattana, the Si Sa Ket Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office reported.
Provincial Governor Thawat Suraban instructed the provincial branch of the Red Cross Society and other officials to provide initial assistance, including the distribution of relief bags to 310 families.
Affected residents whose houses were damaged were staying with relatives or receiving help from neighbours and friends to repair their houses.
Muang’s Tambon Nong Khrok resident Phrom Thaewthat, 67, said his house’s tin roof had been blown away by the rainstorm and the furniture and appliances were soaking wet.
After the storm, he and neighbours collected the tin sheets that had been blown away to repair his house so that his family could shelter for the night.
