A dead body, believed to be of a western man, was discovered on Wednesday floating near Koh Kaewpissadan on the west coast of Rawai on Phuket.

Police from Chalong station, Marine Police, Forensic Police, a medical team from Vachira Hospital, as well as the Phuket Ruamjai rescue team collected the body using a boat from the Rawai Municipality. The body was brought ashore at Pakbang Pakbang Canal, near Rawai Beach.

The body appeared to be a white male wearing only a white T-shirt and had already started to decompose. The officers were unable to identify his face and there was no ID on the body. Initial investigation found no traces of a physical attack.

The body was sent to Vachira Hospital for an autopsy and DNA testing in an effort to discover the man’s identity.

Police suspect that the body might be an Italian man who went missing while diving at Yanui beach on February 25.

Chalong police are contacting other stations to check the records of missing people.
