Krabi’s underwater gamblers in hot water
A group of four divers playing cards for money under water could be in trouble – but only if it can be proven that they were committing a crime in Thailand.
Although Thai money is clearly visible in an online video of the game, authorities in Krabi think that it is probably a prank filmed abroad.
The “card school” video, which has been shared on Facebook, shows four people playing with cards and large numbers of Bt10 coins.
Pol Lt-Colonel Anurak Parinyasathirakun of the Krabi Water Police said he doesn’t believe the gambling occurred in his jurisdiction.
Woraphot Lormlim, an official with the national park that covers the Phi Phi area, believes that the clip was probably filmed abroad. But if it was proven to be in Thailand, the perpetrators could face prosecution.
Thailand has strict laws regarding gambling.
