Rain could trigger sudden surges at waterfalls in Trang, swimmers warned

People visiting popular waterfalls in Trang were warned on Monday that rain expected in the afternoon and evening could cause sudden hazardous surges of water.

Wichai Putthinuan, chief of the forestry protection unit in Paliang district, said heavy rain over the Banthad Mountains above the falls would cause significant downstream runoffs.
Tourists swimming below the Sairung Waterfall in Yan Takhao district and Lam Plok Waterfall in Paliang should be wary of sudden surges in the current, Wichai said.
One such incident already occurred this year, at the Toneta Waterfall in Paliang on February 24, but officials managed to get swimmers out of the water in time.
