Warnings issued as thunderstorms predicted cross-country this week

A high-pressure mass from China will move into Thailand this week, resulting in thunderstorms, high winds, heavy rains and possibly hailstorms in most provinces outside the South.

The government’s Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department is coordinating with authorities in 61 provinces to prepare for severe storms from Wednesday through Sunday.
Director general Chayapol Thitisak said provincial administrations had been told to stay alert around the clock to thunderstorm advisories from the Meteorological Department.
The Meteorological Department has forecast that 17 provinces in the North, 20 in the Northeast, 17 in the Central region and seven in the East could be hit.
Chayapol said provincial authorities would be watching for trees and branches, billboards and other such structures that might be loosened and pose a hazard to people or property.
He advised citizens in general to constantly monitor broadcasts and heed warnings from the authorities.
