Turtle eggs found on Nui Beach and Miang Island

More than 106 turtle eggs have been found on Nui Beach in Ko Lanta and Miang Island in Similan National Park.

It is the fourth time that turtles have laid eggs on Miang Island in Phang Nga province and the 2nd time at Nui Beach in Krabi province.
The Chief of Mo Koh Similan National Park in Kuraburi District, Ruamsin Manajongprasert, said that a forest specialist and a team from Miang Island National Park surveyed the island last night and found turtle tracks from the sea to the upper beach.
They followed the tracks and found the mother, a green sea turtle, digging a hole to lay eggs. The team monitored the mother turtle until she buried all her eggs.
The green sea turtle is 110 centimetres long and 74 centimetres wide.
The officers returned to the eggs later and moved them to a safe place as the area was on a walkway to the beach.
The area where the eggs were laid is near where another set of turtle eggs found on March 13. The eggs from March 13 have not hatched yet and are expected to hatch within 30 days.
