Police talk down would-be Samut Prakan bridge suicide

Samut Prakan police prevented a plumber from hanging himself from a traffic sign on a bridge late Tuesday night.

Phra Pradaeng police got a call at 11pm about a man who appeared to have suicidal intent who’d parked his pickup truck on the Bhumibol 2 Bridge in Phra Pradaeng district.
They found the 35-year-old man (name withheld), sitting on the back of the pickup with a length of cloth tied between his neck and a traffic sign.
He was talking to himself and appeared intoxicated and intent on jumping from the bridge.
Police heard him complaining about tension so unbearable that he wanted to die.
They persuaded him after 45 minutes’ discussion to remove the cloth from his neck and took him to the station, where relatives collected him.
The relatives told police he had financial difficulties.
