Arrest warrants issued in deadly ambush of Hmong kamnan’s family

Arrest warrants have been issued for four suspects in the fatal April 24 ambush on Hmong kamnan Thaweesak Yodmaneebanphot and his family, said Provincial Police Region 5 chief Pol Lt-General Poonsap Prasertsak on Friday.
One of the four wanted suspects was identified as Chumphon Yodmaneebanphot, who was alleged to have links to drug trafficking, he said.
Poonsap said police are still probing the motive for the ambush. One theory is that the suspects reportedly believed Weerasak had provided information to the authorities prior to the ambush about the smuggling of 9.4 million methamphetamine pills, resulting in the police seizure of a large batch of narcotics during Songkran. 

The attack seriously injured 54-year-old Thaweesak – chief of Tambon Por and president of the Hmong People Club of Thailand – and his three-year-old son Chaimongkol. His 40-year-old wife Maiyia Wongnaphapaisarn and five-year-old daughter Thanyaporn were killed. 
Poonsap also reported that the seizure by police of about 70 guns from the Tambon Por area in a bid to find the guns used in the ambush failed to find any weapons linked to the crime. Officers would keep looking, he said. The ambush appeared to be well organised with a plan for the attack, delegation of tasks including a route scout and a shooter, and a planned escape route, Poonsap said.
Thaweesak has been released from hospital and is now staying at a secured location, police said.
