Indians arrested in fake marriage scam

Immigration police have arrested eight Indian men for using fake marriage registration certificates to seek resident visas, deputy tourist police chief Maj Gen Surachate Hakpan said on Wednesday.

The eight suspects were identified as Prabhakar Singh, Ritesh Kumar, Manjeet Mallah, Suraj Prakash Singh, Raju Sharma, Shailesh Kumar Tripathi, Vijendra Nishad and Bhajan Nishad.
The arrests followed earlier legal action against an assistant district chief of Wang Muang district and two district officials for allegedly using some 2,000 Thai women's names to fake marriage registration certificates to sell to an Indian crime ring.
The three were arrested after a number of Thai women found their names recorded married to Indian men that they had never met in the household registration database of the Provincial Administration Department.
Surachate said arrest warrants were issued after police found 300 of the 2,000 Indians registered as married to Thais in the Wang Muang district were fake.
He added that police have yet to check a further 1,700 marriages of Indians to Thai women.
