Neighbours seek support for Chiang Mai woman, 76

Neighbours who have been caring for a bed-ridden 76-year-old woman out of sympathy have called for public support for her.

The Nation on Friday morning visited the house of Khankaew Duangdej after being informed by her neighbours that she has been in difficulty in her old and unfinished house in Ban Phaya Chomphu village of Tambon Chomphu in Chiang Mai's Sarapee district.
She was found on a bed in a bungalow with a big bed sore on her hip.
Neighbours said Khanakaew suffered a stroke 20 years ago and has been bed-ridden. Unfortunately, three of her four sons have died and the remaining one was an alcoholic and has a hand condition that prevents him from taking care of himself or his mother.
The neighbours said they took turns to take care of her and she was left alone at night.
They would like the public to contribute to adult nappies, wound cleaning kits and flu masks as they have to tend her bed sores each day.
