Korat politician arrested for falsifying pickup robbery report

The vice president of a tambon council in Nakhon Ratchasima was arrested Thursday morning for allegedly falsifying a report that his pick-up truck had been stolen.

Thanakrit Thiangkrathok, 52, vice president of Tambon Hin Khok Council in Nakhon Ratchasima’s Chakkarat district, was arrested by police attached to Buri Ram’s Krasang district station.
Thanakrit filed a complaint with police at the Raka intersection booth in Krasang at noon on Wednesday, saying that that two men had stopped him on the road and driven off with his pickup truck.
Thannakrit claimed that he had been driving to a temple in Krasang’s Tambon Sung None when two men blocked the road and drove off with the pickup when he stopped to find out what was happening.
Police noted several irregularities in his story and questioned him throughout the night. He eventually admitted that he had made up the story in the hope of claiming compensation from his insurance.
Thanakrit said he had put up the pickup as collateral for a loan but failed to honour the debt and the vehicle had been seized by the creditor.
