Duped vendor donates durians to monks, plus cash to conman

A durian vendor in Nakhon Si Thammarat was conned out of Bt5,000 and into unwillingly donating Bt20,000 worth of durians to monks at a temple.

The vendor Ratanaporn Tippamart, 37, on Wednesday filed a complaint with police after the con went down at a market near the provincial hall on Tuesday.
She said she was approached by a man, who looked to be 50 to 55 years old, who said he wanted to buy all of her 200 durians for the monks and novices at Wat Srariang in Muang district to eat for their lunch desert to make merit to mark his birthday.
The man asked her to drive to the temple and prepare the 180 kilograms of durians for the monks. While she was preparing the durian for the monks the man borrowed Bt5,000 in Bt100 notes, saying he would put them in envelops to make merit to monks.
Thinking she would get the cash back together with the price of the durians, the woman handed him the Bt5,000.
The man later told her he was going out to buy more food for the monks and disappeared, she said.
