BMTA halves fuel costs in trial runs for hybrid buses

The Bangkok Mass Transit Authority reported Wednesday that a test-run of hybrid diesel-electricity buses produced 48 per cent savings on petrol.

Acting BMTA director Prayoon Chuaykaew said the trial runs of hybrid buses for the 42-kilometre Route 510 from Thammasat University at Rangsit to the Victory Monument were successful in terms of saving fuel.

In a test run on July 1, a bus used 60 litres of diesel for eight trips, down from the normal 101 litres.
Test runs will continue until July 15 and hybrid buses would be gradually introduced on other routes on a trial basis.
