Missing engineer found in car at bottom of Chanthaburi pond

An engineer who was reported missing seven years ago was found inside his car at the bottom of a pond in Chanthaburi’s Muang district on Thursday morning.

The Muang Chathaburi police station was alerted by a triathlon sportsman, who told them he had spotted a car at the bottom of the Nong Nam Khao Pond in Tha Chang while swimming.
Police sent a bulldozer to haul the black Honda City car with a Bangkok license plate to the surface, an operation that took about an hour. Bones from the skeleton were scattered on the drive seat.
The car’s transmission controller was in the D3 position and the keys were still in the ignition. The window on the driver’s side was lowered and a bottle of pesticide and a bottle of bottle water were found on the passenger seat.
An identification card found in the wallet named the driver as Ruangrit Jittho, 32, a resident of Khon Kaen’s Ban Phai district.
Police searched the online database and found that Ruangrit's family reported him missing on November 8, 2011. He was working as an engineer for AA company in Prachin Buri's Kabin Buri district at the time.
The family has continued its search for him throughout the seven years.
Police sent the remains for a post mortem to try to determine whether his death was an accident or suicide.
