Thai-made film on Mu Pa rescue on agenda of mobile Cabinet

SPECIAL PANEL set up to oversee production of films by foreign companies about the rescue of the Mu Pa football team from a cave in Chiang Rai, will also study the possibility of Thailand producing the film, Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam said yesterday.

The panel was set up in response to strong interest from some Hollywood production companies to make movies about the multinational and marathon cave rescue operation to free 12 boys and their assistant coach from the now-famous Tham Luang cave.
The Cabinet is to consider a proposal from the Culture Department today during its mobile meeting in Ubon Ratchathani province.
Wissanu told reporters that the board is tasked with making sure all movie scripts are accurate.
The board will also help families of the Mu Pa boys negotiate agreements with the foreign film companies as well as possible intellectual rights.
“The board will also conduct a study to look into any possibility if Thailand wishes to produce a film by itself,” Wissanu said.
Meanwhile, the Mu Pa players and assistant coach Ekkapol Chantawongse on Sunday attended mass at a Christian church in Ban Doi Ngam, along with about 200 people. One of the boys, Adul Samon, is a member of the church congregation and usually attends Sunday services. They participated in prayers giving thanks for surviving their entrapment and extraction from the cave.
They also prayed for the family of former Navy SEAL Lt-Commander Saman Kunan, who died when he ran out of air while placing oxygen tanks in the cave during the 17-day operation.
