The offerings were being delivered to local temples at the start of Buddhist Lent. Buddhists believe that offering candles as a means of light to monks who stay in a fixed place during the three-month Buddhist Lent (late July to mid October) &ndash; a tradition observed since the time of Lord Buddha &ndash; will brighten their future.
