Two Surat Thani districts declared flood disaster zones

Two Surat Thani districts declared flood disaster zones

Two districts in the southern province of Surat Thani were declared flood disaster zones on Saturday, as administrators tried to speed up help for the flood victims.

Chaia Buri and Phanom districts were declared disaster zones by the provincial administration after flash floods affected 26 villages in three tambon – Klong Sok, Phang Kan and Phanom.
Another18 villages in Chaiya Buri’s tambon Song Praek, Klong Noi, Chai Buri and Sai Song were also affected.
Officials said those areas flooded by run-off from Khao Sok National Park have seen water levels lowered, but the low-lying areas remained under 80 centimetres to one metre of water.
The Surat Thani Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office has warned people living on the banks of Tapi River and Klong Pumduang Canal to be on alert, as heavy rains could continue until Tuesday, causing the water to breach their banks.
