New app helps traffic police nab fugitives on the road

New app helps traffic police nab fugitives on the road

A new mobile app has helped Bangkok traffic police arrest two fugitives over the past two weeks, a senior police officer said on Monday.

Pol Col Kitti Ariyanon said the Crimes on Mobile app helped traffic police quickly check drivers stopped for traffic violations against the online database of wanted criminals.
Kiti said traffic police from the Traffic Police Division of the Metropolitan Police Bureau have been trained to use the app and they managed to identify two fugitives during the first two weeks of using it.
In the first case, a taxi driver was arrested for violating traffic signs and not carrying a public driving license. The arresting traffic policeman checked the man with the app and found that the suspect was wanted for alleged credit card fraud.
In the second case, the suspect was stopped for a traffic offence and police found he was also wanted on charges of theft.
Kitti said traffic police from 88 police stations in Bangkok would be trained to use the app.
