Guidelines set for media as ABC airs interview and 2 others wait their turn
The media may ask for permission to interview the 13 members of the Mu Pa (Wild Boar) Academy Mae Sai, who were rescued from the flooded Tham Luang cave under the world’s spotlight last month.
“If you contact relevant authorities and comply with guidelines, you can do the interview,” Deputy Government Spokesman Lt-General Werachon Sukondhapatipak said on Thursday after US broadcaster ABC News aired its interview with the Mu Pa members.
The guidelines, for example, require the presence of a psychologist during interviews and a pre-interview screening of questions.
Werachon says ABC News is the first news agency to have sought permission for “constructive communications” from the committee, which is chaired by Culture Minister Vira Rojpojchanarat.
“In the queue for interviews now are NBC News and CNN,” Werachon said.
