Pathum Thani squatter families seek help after eviction

The residents of 95 families who are about to lose the homes where they’ve been squatting for years in Pathum Thani to a government irrigation project want help finding new places to live.

The Royal Irrigation Department has ordered them off Crown Property on the banks of Klong 13 so it can expand the canal and build a water gate.
Twenty representatives of the families submitted a written appeal to a complaint-receiving centre at Pathum Thani Provincial Hall on Tuesday morning.
Col Charas Wadkhien, head of the local office of Internal Security Operations Command, and Kanistha Sukcharoen, director of the complaint centre, accepted the letter and promised to get back to them within 20 days about assistance measures.
The squatters asked to be found new homes near their existing community so they could continue earning their living there.
