ID cards granted to 48 stateless Thais in Trat

Forty-eight stateless Thais in Trat were given citizenship and identification cards on Thursday morning.

They were in sworn in as citizens at Klong Yai district office.
District chief Chaiwat Ochananon chaired the event at which the group pledged loyalty to the Kingdom.
All had proved they were born in Thailand to Thai parents.
They lacked identification cards because their births have not been properly registered, leaving them ineligible for state-sponsored health and welfare services.
