Red flags went up at the Rama VI Dam in Ayutthaya on Monday to warn people downstream on the Pa Sak River to brace for rising water levels.

Ampol Ritmanee said water was being released from the dam in Tha Rua district at 625 cubic metres per second to accommodate increased volume coming from the Pa Sak Chonlasit Dam upstream in Lop Buri.

Ampol said the water was flowing into the Pa Sak Chonlasit Dam at 50 million cubic metres a day and had boosted the amount in the reservoir to 506.8 million cubic metres, just 4.31 million cubic metres short of its capacity.
Water was thus being released from that dam faster, necessitating the same response at the Rama VI Dam.
Water from the Rama VI Dam is normally used to irrigate 680,000 rai of farmland.
