BMA to seek Cabinet approval for two more drainage tunnels

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration will seek Cabinet approval for two drainage tunnels jointly costing more than Bt3.9 billion, deputy BMA governor Chakkaphan Phiewngam said Monday.

Chakkaphan said the BMA would soon ask the Cabinet to approve the construction of a tunnel to drain water from Klong Thawee Watana costing Bt2.274 billion, and the Saen Saeb Canal tunnel, requiring an investment of Bt1.75 billion.
The Saen Saeb tunnel would be built from the canal to Lat Phrao Soi 130 while the Klong Thawee Watana tunnel would be built from its bottleneck section part to a nearby river.
Chakkaphan said the two projects would be 50-per-cent financed by government so required Cabinet approval.
He said another project to build a 9.4-km tunnel to drain floodwaters from Nong Bon swamp to Chao Phraya River would be completed late next year and would alleviate flooding problems in Suan Luang, Bang Na, and Phra Khanong districts.
