Phuket governor inspects coastal flooding
Phuket’s new governor, Pakkapong Tawipat, just two days into the job, yesterday visited Kamala and Patong to survey the damaged areas after the torrential rains, flash floods and landslides.
Parts of Phuket’s west coast was awash yesterday with torrential rain.
The rain came from a concentrated depression over a 10-kilometre stretch, drenching Kamala all the way to southern Patong, Kalim and the coastal road for over an hour between 11am and midday.
Officials, led by Pakkapong, inspected flooded areas around Kamala.
The governor ordered officials to urgently repair the damaged main road and find solutions to prevent further landslides.
He also ordered district officials and government organisations to closely monitor the situation and prepare rescue equipment and personnel for a 24-hour emergency response.
