Chulalongkorn appeals for cancer fund donations

Chulalongkorn appeals for cancer fund donations

Thais are invited to make donations to Chulalongkorn University (CU) research to develop its "Biologics" medicine to boost the human immune system to combat cancer.

The Cancer Immunotherapy Fund is hoping to support the research and development project by Chula Comprehensive Cancer Centre to lower the cost per dose of imported immunotherapy medicine from Bt200,000 to Bt20,000.
A patient is required to have a shot every three weeks for at least two years to encourage the body's immune system to combat and control cancer cells, said CU Systems Biology Centre director Dr Trairak Pisitkun, who is among the project's three principal investigators.
The cost of cancer treatment is currently Bt8.5 million per head, which would go as low as Bt700,000 per head, making it more affordable and accessible to Thai patients.
Trairak used to work with the US-based National Institutes of Health before he returned to Thailand to carry out the research along with interdisciplinary experts, Thai collaborators and international advisory teams.
Those interested can make donations at Siam Commercial Bank's savings account of the CU Cancer Immunotherapy Fund 408-004443-4 or contact [email protected] or the “CU Cancer Immunotherapy Fund” Facebook page.
