A Roi Et police senior sergeant major found dead in his rice field late Thursday afternoon, evidently having been struck by lightning.

The body of Prayongyuth Phanthanam, 45, was found on a path through his paddy field in Selaphum district at 5.30pm following a thunderstorm.

Neighbours found him with no pulse and Tambon Muang Prai administration rescuers failed to resuscitate him.

A doctor at the Selaphum Hospital determined in a post-mortem that Prayongyuth had been subjected to high voltage, causing heart failure.

Relatives said it was Prayongyuth’s daily routine to tend to his rice field after finishing his police work.
