Close call for 15 passengers as train crashes into van in Suphan Buri

A passenger train driver is being credited with saving the lives of 15 Thai tourists after he braked at the last minute and slowed down before hitting a passenger van at a railway crossing in Suphan Buri late on Friday.

As a result of the driver's quick action, no one in the van was killed or severely injured. Some of the passengers suffered bruises in the accident on Bang Li-Nong Walpriang road in Ban Hua Sakae village in Tambon None Phra Prang of Suphan Buri's Song Phi Nong district.
The van driver, Aroon Thassnakron, 62, said he was taking the passengers from Ratchaburi to visit Mae Sot district in Tak.
He said it was raining heavily and he did not see an oncoming train when he drove past the rail crossing.
The train driver applied his brakes and the passengers in the van screamed as the train careened towards them and hit the back of the van, shunting it onto the road.
The van passengers thanked the train driver for saving their lives by stopping the train in time.
