Officials cut down 1,500 encroaching rubber trees in Nakhon Si Thammarat after court ruling

Some 1,500 six-year-old rubber trees in a 16-rai (2.5 hectares) plantation that encroached onto Huai Ta Luang Soi and Huai Ton Rian forests in Nakhon Si Thammarat’s Tha Sala district were cut down on Tuesday after a court case reached its conclusion.

The operation was carried out by Protected Area Regional Office 5 and Khao Nan National Park officials along with border patrol police, soldiers and other administrative officials.
Khao Nan National Park head Charan Doungpan said officials had been authorized to destroy the trees as per the National Park Act, in order to make way for reforestation.
