Carcasses of protected wild animals seized from border market in Chiang Rai

Several carcasses of protected wild animals were found and seized at a market held every Wednesday on the Thai-Myanmar border in Chiang Rai’s Wiang Kaen district.

The operation was conducted by a team comprising soldiers, police officers and district and livestock officials.
No arrests were made as the carcasses had been left unattended in the middle of the market. The carcasses were of a black hornbill, an oriental giant squirrel, three barking deer, one palm civet and two squirrels.
The authorities believe the animals were hunted on the Myanmar side and brought across in a boat to sell at the market.
