Nakhon Si Thammarat villagers seek help to drive off nine wild elephants

Residents of two villages in Nakhon Si Thammarat's Nopphitam district on Thursday called on the authorities to help drive nine wild elephants back into the forest.

The villagers complained that a herd of wild elephants had been helping themselves to fruit grown by villagers for several days and their presence terrified villagers, prompting some to leave their houses.
Residents of Moo 9 and and Moo 6 villages in Tambon Na Long said they were so afraid of the wild elephants that they dared not go out to tap their rubber trees or to work in their fruit orchards and banana plantations.
Surachai Choksawat, chief of Moo 9 village, said one of the elephants has two calves and it appeared fierce.
Surachai said the two village's tap water pipes were also damaged by the elephants.
