Pence slams China's 'opaque' chequebook diplomacy
US Vice President Mike Pence on Saturday used an Asia-Pacific regional summit to pillory China's "opaque" chequebook diplomacy in a combative speech.
Pence encouraged Pacific nations to embrace the United States, which, he said in a swipe at Beijing's massive "Belt and Road" infrastructure initiative, did not offer a "constricting belt or a one-way road."
