Worries float away...

Worries float away...

Evert year, on the full-moon night of the 12th month in the Thai lunar calendar, millions of people across the country come out to release decorative floats in ponds or waterways to ask the River Goddess for forgiveness for the wrongs they have done in the past year.

Many also believe their bad luck will also flow away with their “krathong”, and in order for this to happen, they leave a few coins or their fingernails in the float. The festival is celebrated in different ways in different corners of the Kingdom. For instance, in the North people release candlelit lanterns in the air, while in Tak province, locals release their krathong together, so they all flow in one long line down the river or canals. This day is also marked in neighbouring countries, such as Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia
