Officials from the Land Transport Department took action against Surachart Artwongsa, 43, after he had a disagreement with two foreign passengers.
The passengers were later discovered to be Korean, one of whom was a famous TV personality who posted a video of his ordeal on social media.
Korean TV presenter Kim Woo Ri, accused the driver of taking him and a colleague round in circles for more than 20 minutes. When he complained, the driver threatened him with a stick.
Surachart told officials that due to the language barrier, he thought they wanted to go to Sampeng market, when actually they wanted to go to Sathorn Road.
Surachart said that he didn’t want to take them to Sathorn Road so, without asking for a fare, he told the passengers to leave his cab.

He said he became angry at the passengers because they left the doors of his cab open when they left.
He denied threatening them with a stick, but said he used the cardboard centre of an empty toilet roll.
Surachart apologised for damaging the image of Thailand and other Bangkok taxi drivers.
