Smart license to be introduced
The Department of Land Transport (DLT) plans to launch a smart driver’s licence system that links with a smart phone application so that motorists no longer have to carry the actual cards.
The “DLT SMART LICENCE” app, which will include personal information useful for emergency medical treatment (such blood group, drug allergies and healthcare scheme to which the holder is subscribed) along with a reminder of the time the licence is due for renewal, will be in use from next month, a source at the DLT said.
The app will show both the front and the reverse side of the licence on the smartphone screen allowing traffic police manning checkpoints to look it up by scanning the displayed QR code.
