Surat Thani governor helps rescue suicidal man

The governor of Surat Thani convinced a suicidal man not to jump from the Sri Surat Bridge into the Tapi River on Wednesday night.

Surat Thani governor Witchawut Jinto went to the Sri Surat Bridge and convinced Atthapong Wassana, 30, not to jump when he promised to look into his problems and would help solve them.
The man was seen parking his pickup truck on the bridge at 7.30pm. He went to the edge of the bridge and threatened to jump.
Police and friends tried but failed to persuade him to leave the area and go home.
He complained that his seafood restaurant business flopped, a friend refused to return money that he had borrowed. He also said he had been deceived by a Facebook page and lost Bt4,500. The page claimed he needed to pay a fee to process a loan but he did not get the promised loan after paying the fee.
Atthapong left the bridge after the governor told him that he must file a complaint at the province's public complaint centre, and that he would help him get the money back from the Facebook page and from his friend.
