Chinese tourist numbers increase following visa fee exemption

More Chinese tourists' arrived in Thailand in November following the exemption of visa on arrival fee, although the growth is still negative, the Tourism and Sports Ministry reported.

The VoA fee has been exempted for Chinese tourists since November 13 as a measure to attract more visitors to the kingdom. The measure is due to expire on January 13.
The ministry reported that 675,129 Chinese tourists visited Thailand in November, a fall by 14.63 per cent, but the situation improved compared to October when the drop was 19.8 per cent..
The ministry said the revenue generated by Chinese tourists in November was Bt36.454 billion, a fall of 10.36 per cent compared to the same month last year.
It said the number of all foreign tourists was 3.177 million, an increase of 4.54 per cent compared to the same period last year. It was an improved situation from October when the number of all foreign tourists shrank by 0.51 per cent.
The revenue generated by foreign tourists in November was Bt167.417 billion, an increase of 5.18 per cent compared to the same month last year.
From January to November, 34.431 foreign tourists have visited the kingdom, an increase of 7.53 per cent.
Chinese tourists remain on top with 9.697 million visiting Thailand from January to November, generating Bt536.278 billion of revenue.
