Plea for help for bed-ridden mother, son in Samut Prakan

Plea for help for bed-ridden mother, son in Samut Prakan

Neighbours and officials of a condominium in Samut Prakan have called for government agencies to step in to help an elderly mother and her son who have been bed-ridden for months.

Anong Thawong, an official of Thepha View Condominium on Soi Thepharak 102 in Tambon Thepharak of Samut Prakan's Muang district, said the mother, Puang Sukphodee, 77, and her son, Pallop Sukphodee, 46, have been surviving on help from neighours without help from government agencies.
Anong said Pallop has been helpless and bed-ridden since 2001, following a road accident that also damaged his brain.
The mother had been taking care of him until she fell down in the bathroom over two months ago, breaking her hip and becoming helpless as well, Anong said.
Anong said neighbours and condo officials have taken turns to take care of the mother and son by feeding them food and and changing their diapers.
She said the manager of the condo also gave her Bt200 a day to buy food for the mother and the son.
The mother has a monthly allowance for the elderly that is being used to buy necessities, such as adult diapers.
Anong said she would like government agencies to step in to help for fear that the mother and son could develop bed sores that could turn fatally infectious.
