There was a 10km jam on the section from the motorway construction site near the Lam Takhong reservoir to the front of Khlong Phai Prison in Sikhio, prompting police to open an extra lane.&nbsp; 
Police advised motorists to use alternative routes.

Congestion spoils New Year trips

Heavy traffic was reported on Thursday afternoon on the northeast-bound Mitraparp Highway in Nakhon Ratchasima's Pak Chong and Sikhio districts as motorists look to celebrate the New Year.
