Navy ship carrier prepares for rescue operations

The Royal Thai Navy’s HTMS Chakri Naruebet has been put on standby for rescue missions in the wake of the tropical storm Pabuk.

The ship has been loaded with necessities and consumer goods, and is expected to depart Sattahip district, Chon Buri, on Friday afternoon for rescue operations. This vessel, assigned to lead the rescue operation, is expected to take 15 hours to reach the affected area.

The vessel, Thailand’s first and only aircraft carrier, will also be equipped with a complete rescue force and equipment, including four helicopters, a maritime aquatic life support team and a naval disaster assessment team.

Pabuk, the first tropical storm in decades to strike during the peak holiday season, is expected to make landfall on Friday evening with the eye passing over Nakhon Si Thammarat further to the south.
