Wedding smiles vanish in Phuket as photographers hauled away

Wedding smiles vanish in Phuket as photographers hauled away

Phuket’s beaches and temples are popular settings for pre-nuptial photos, but yesterday police on the island rounded up seven of the people taking the pictures for working without a permit.

Phuket Immigration Office Chief Col Kathatorn Kumthieg had his staff sniff around Wat Kathu and Kata Noi Beach and they found seven photographers and assistants snapping away with no better licence than a tourist visa.
All were foreigners contracted in China to handle the assignments in Thailand.
Their contracts referred to other locales for photo shoots, including Soi Rommanee and Thalang Road in Old Phuket Town, Wat Chalong, Lattiwanaram Temple (Wat Tai), Phromthep Cape and the beaches of Surin, Naiyang and Kamala.
The contracts also had the names of the photographers, makeup artists and coordinators.
The seven foreigners arrested were taken to Karon and Kathu police stations and charged with working illegally.
