Muslim-majority South to get administrative court in Yala
Yala Administrative Court will open on January 18 to handle administrative cases from the deep South.
Located in Yala’s Muang district, it will have jurisdiction over the southern Muslim-majority border provinces of Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat.
Officials and judges for the new court have already received training in special laws used in the deep South, as well as in the local Muslim traditions, beliefs and ways of life.
Until now, people in the deep South have had to lodge administrative complaints with the Songkhla Administrative Court.
“For pending cases, the accused may have those cases transferred to the new court if it is closer to their home,” said deputy spokesperson for administrative courts Saitip Sukatipanta.
People in the three southernmost provinces would also be able to lodge complaints to the Yala Administrative Court via registered mail, Saitip added.
She said complaints would be registered from the day they are submitted to postal officials.
Administrative courts are considering making complaint forms available at all post offices in the southern border provinces.
