Stressed-out Saraburi mum dissuaded from self-harm

A 22-year-old mother of three gave authorities in Saraburi a scare on Sunday night when she threatened to take her own life and the lives of her children and then fled into a forest holding a knife to her throat.

The woman, identified only as Wannapa, soon after returned and surrendered. She was said to be under intense stress. No one was physically harmed.
Police responded to a call to their 191 hotline about a suicide threat, arriving at a house in Tambon Kud Nok Plao to find 62-year-old homeowner Noi (surname again withheld) claiming Wannapa, her granddaughter, had a seven-inch knife.
Wannapa had been unemployed for two months and was struggling to care for her children, ages 7, 5 and 4. She’d long ago split up with their father, her first husband.
Noi said Wannapa’s second husband had walked out on her at the weekend following a quarrel stemming from a visit by her ex, who’d brought the kids gifts for Children’s Day.
Wannapa snapped on Sunday evening, Noi said, suddenly grabbing a knife and threatening murder- suicide and then running alone into the woods behind the house.
Police brought Wannapa’s current husband to the scene and both he and the children called out to her. She emerged from the forest at 9pm and was taken to the police station for a talk.
