Cyclist killed after being hit by pickup

An unidentified cyclist was killed after being knocked down by a pickup truck in Suphan Buri province early on Wednesday, police said.

The pickup driver, Thaweesak Sornthanong, 23, initially fled the scene after the accident at 3am on a road along the Bang Li-Wat Pa irrigation canal in Moo 9 village in Tambon Don Kamyan.
But Thaweesak later turned himself in at the Muang Suphan Buri Police Station.
The bicyclist appeared to be around 45 to 55 years old. He did not carry any identification document.
Thaweesak left his pickup with his mother, Mali Khamlua, 41, she told police, adding, they were heading to sell fish at a market in Muang district.
She said her son fled on foot out of shock after learning the victim had died.
Thaweesak told police that the cyclist had suddenly cut into his lane so he could not slam the brakes in time.
