41 spots in Bangkok, nearby provinces found to have unsafe levels of polluted air

Forty-one areas in Bangkok and nearby provinces were found to have unsafe levels of PM2.5 – airborne particulates 2.5 microns in diameter and smaller, –The Pollution Control Department reported on Saturday morning.

The PCD report said the PM2.5 levels were found to be higher than the safe limit of 50 micrograms per cubic metre of air in 24 roadside areas and 17 general areas (away from main roads).
The report said the lack of strong wind and rain on Saturday morning contributed to the high levels of PM2.5.

Among the areas with unsafe levels, were the Rama II roadside in Samut Sakhon's Muang district with 119 micrograms of PM2.5 per cubic metre of air, compared to 109 micrograms/cubic metres on Friday.
In Bangkok, the Kanchanapisek roadside in Bang Khun Thian district was found to have 90 mg/cm2 of PM2.5 while the Rama II roadside in Bang Khun Thian was found to have 88 mg/cm2 of PM2.5.
A measuring station in Din Daeng detected PM2.5 at the level of 70 micrograms per cubic metres of air and another station on the Rama IV road in Pathumwan 78 microgams.
On Friday, Samut Sakhon governor Somkid Chanthamaruek and officials from the province's Disaster Mitigation Office and chiefs of local governments jointly monitored an operation to spray water in front of the Central Plaza Mahachai in Samut Sakhon's Muang district to try to reduce the level of PM2.5 dust.
The water spraying was carried out after the Rama II roadside in the Muang district was found to have level of PM2.5 particulates over 100 micrograms per cubic metre of air for several consecutive days.
